Curriculum

Below are the rotation requirements and opportunities available for all Internal Medicine Residents during their three-year program:

CORE Rotations

Mandatory rotations (per ACGME requirements) that are scheduled by the program:

  • Ambulatory Medicine
  • Cardiology
  • Critical Care PGY 1
  • Critical Care PGY 2 & 3
  • ER
  • General Internal Medicine
  • Geriatrics
  • Neurology
  • Night Float
  • ICU Night Float
  • Hospitalist/Consult

IM Electives

Elective rotations within the Internal Medicine Subspecialties.

  • First year residents do not have elective time.
  • Second year residents will have four to eight weeks of assigned IM sub-specialties, including Hematology/Oncology, Cardiology and Nephrology.
  • Third year residents will have eight to twelve weeks of IM elective time scheduled into their rotation schedule.
  • Elective rotations include:
    • Endocrine
    • Gastroenterology
    • Hematology/Oncology – assigned during second year
    • Infectious disease
    • Nephrology
    • Pulmonary
    • Rheumatology

Non-IM Electives

Elective rotations outside of Internal Medicine Subspecialties that are provided as opportunities for residents.

  • First year residents do not have elective time scheduled into their rotation schedule.
  • Second year residents do not have elective time scheduled into their rotation schedule.
  • Third year residents will have eight weeks of Non-IM Elective time scheduled into their rotation schedule. 
  • Opportunities include:
    • Allergy and Immunology
    • Dermatology
    • ENT
    • Gynecology, Office
    • Orthopedics, Non-Operative
    • Ophthalmology, Medical
    • Palliative Medicine
    • Psychiatry
    • Rehab Medicine
    • Sleep Medicine

Didactics

The clinical experience will be supplemented by a structured didactic program that includes:

  • Morning/Resident Report
  • Journal Club
  • Tumor Board
  • M&M
  • EKG Conference
  • Noon Lecture
  • Medicine Board Review
  • Critical Care Series
  • Medicine team work rounds with Community Attendings
  • OMM Lectures & Workshops
  • Simulation Lab
  • Bedside Ultrasound Training
  • PS/QI council

Clinics

Internal Medicine residents currently attend the on-site clinic. This experience is coupled with PEAC Internal Medicine curriculum to enhance the resident learning experience.
