Rehabilitation Types
Detailed information about the rehabilitation therapies we offer in our programs is provided below.
Physical Therapy
All of our outpatient therapy departments offer physical therapy services. Highly trained physical therapists perform thorough evaluations and develop tailored treatment plans to help you or your loved one meet individual goals. Treatment sessions are one-on-one and provide hands-on treatment, manual techniques and exercises to help you move better and reduce pain.
Common conditions physical therapists treat include:
- Neck and back pain
- Upper and lower extremity pain
- Post-surgical conditions
- Sports injuries
- Work-related injuries
- Neurological conditions, including cerebrovascular accident, Parkinson’s Disease and multiple sclerosis
- Dizziness, balance and walking difficulties
- Developmental delay and disability
- Amputations
- Swelling following cancer treatment or lymph node removal
Occupational Therapy
The Outpatient Pediatric Therapy and Physical Medicine departments at Manatee Memorial Hospital offer comprehensive occupational therapy services. Occupational therapists can help you or your loved one learn to care for themselves and return to a more productive living following surgery, injury or other conditions. The occupational therapists will focus on activities of daily living and functional skills to improve quality of life.
Other conditions treated by occupational therapists include:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Shoulder, elbow or wrist dysfunction and post-surgical conditions
- Upper extremity fracture, sprain or strain
- Nerve injury
- Self care challenges
- Stroke recovery challenges
Speech Therapy
The Outpatient Pediatric Therapy and Physical Medicine departments at Manatee Memorial Hospital Manatee Memorial Hospital offer comprehensive speech language therapy services on site. Licensed speech language pathologists can help you or a loved one with problems involving swallowing, speech or language. Our therapists work with the patient and their family to help regain your ability to speak and/or swallow after stroke, throat surgery or other conditions which affect speech and language.

A Matter of Balance — Managing Concerns About Falls
The A Matter of Balance program is a free eight-week class is designed to help adults manage falls and increase activity levels.
Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention
The free eight-week class meets Wednesdays and will be facilitated by Suzanne Anderson, MSPT, DPT, Director, Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Center, and Christie Castro, Right at Home-Private Duty.

Advanced Treatment for Parkinson's Disease
We have specially trained therapists certified in the LSVT BIG™ and LSVT LOUD™ programs to assist those suffering the effects of Parkinson's Disease to move and communicate better.
Certified Hand Therapy
Our certified hand therapist may help you with surgical care both before and after surgery, pain management and splinting. Hand and finger tendon reconstruction surgeries and cumulative trauma suffered as a result of repetitive work are just a few areas of our hand therapist’s expertise.
Lymphedema Management
Our specially trained and certified lymphedema therapists will design a program specific to you to help reduce and control your swelling. This may consists of a combination of manual techniques, compression therapy, bandaging exercise and patient/family education.
Neuro Rehabilitation
If you have had a stroke, have multiple sclerosis or balance and walking difficulties, our therapists will work with you to help you regain independence and lost function.
Return to Golf Programs
Our TPI-certified (Titleist Performance Institute) therapist can assess your golf swing and pinpoint swing faults that may lead to problems or re-injury. You will also be instructed in corrective exercises to help you return to the course as safely as possible.
Sports Physical Therapy
For those high school athletes, golfers and weekend warriors suffering injuries, we will help to return you to your sport as quickly and successfully as possible, performing at your best.
Vestibular Therapy
Do you have vertigo, dizziness or difficulty with balance? Our specially trained vestibular therapists can provide specific treatment strategies to reduce or eliminate your symptoms and return you to an active lifestyle.
Wound Care Management
Specially trained therapists will help to cleanse and dress your wound to assist with healing. They may also train you in exercises to maintain your mobility and strength. Once your wound has healed, special garments and techniques may be recommended to minimize scarring and prevent loss of mobility.
Post Rehab Fitness Programs
Once recovered, we can help you maintain your gains with a professionally supervised fitness program designed just for you. When you are ready, we can help you transition back into the fitness activities you enjoyed before illness or injury.
