Manatee Memorial Hospital has been designated an Aetna Institute of Quality® Bariatric Surgery Facility for treating individuals living with morbid, or extreme, obesity.

Aetna makes information about the quality and cost of healthcare services available to its members to help them make informed decisions about their healthcare needs. In line with this goal, Aetna recognizes hospitals and facilities in its network that offer specialized clinical services for certain health conditions. Facilities are selected for consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care.

“We are honored to have received this designation from Aetna," said Kevin DiLallo, CEO of Manatee Memorial Hospital. "We are proud of our Surgical Weight Loss team led by Stelios Rekkas, MD, Medical Director of our Bariatric Surgery, for their commitment to assisting individuals with their long-term weight-loss goals. Many of these patients find relief from serious medical conditions after losing weight, including hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnea and coronary artery disease.”

Manatee Memorial Hospital’s Surgical Weight Loss Program offers three weight-loss surgical procedures including Gastric Sleeve, Adjustable Gastric Band and the Roux-en-Y Procedure (Gastric Bypass) and a non-surgical technique called Obalon® Balloon System. Using these procedures in conjunction with monthly informational seminars, support groups, diet and exercise, patients are supported throughout their weight-loss journey.
