Program Details

Manatee Memorial Hospital's Family Medicine Residency Program is a three-year (36 month) osteopathic post graduate program. The program curriculum is administered by both DO and MD faculty attendings. Core rotations include: Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and General Surgery. Rotations are also provided in NICU, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Urology, ENT, Orthopedics, Sports Medicine and Community Medicine.

Continuity of Care Clinic is an integral curriculum requirement, with increasing levels of time dedicated to this component during each successive year of the residency program.

Family Medicine Continuity Clinic

Residents will have regularly assigned hours at the Family Medicine Continuity Clinic (FMCC) for the three-year duration of the Residency Program.

The requirements for the FMCC are as follows:

OGME–1 – one half-day per week
OGME–2 – one full-day per week
OGME–3 – two full-days per week

  • Internal Medicine Inpatient – eight weeks
  • Family Medicine Inpatient – eight weeks
  • Pediatrics – four weeks
  • General Surgery – four weeks
  • OB/GYN – four weeks
  • Emergency Medicine – four weeks
  • Psychiatry – four weeks
  • Cardiology – four weeks
  • Nephrology – four weeks
  • ICU – four weeks
  • Elective – four weeks

OGME-2

  • Family Medicine Inpatient – eight weeks
  • Family Medicine Outpatient – eight weeks
  • OB/GYN – four weeks
  • Psychiatry – four weeks
  • Dermatology – four weeks
  • Orthopedics – four weeks
  • Pediatrics – eight weeks
  • Elective – eight weeks
  • Gastroenterology – four weeks

OGME–3

  • Emergency Medicine – four weeks
  • Neurology – four weeks
  • NICU – two weeks
  • Pediatric Inpatient – two weeks
  • Pediatric Outpatient – four weeks
  • Surgery – eight weeks
  • Family Practice Inpatient – four weeks
  • Family Practice Outpatient – four weeks
  • OB/GYN – four weeks
  • Sports Medicine – two weeks
  • Community Medicine – two weeks
  • Elective – eight weeks
  • Geriatrics – four weeks

Educational Conferences

To foster an open and productive learning environment, Manatee Memorial Hospital’s Family Medicine Residents participate in a variety of conferences including Morning Report, Noon Lectures, Journal Club, and Board Review.

  • Morning Report – Fridays 7 - 8 a.m.
  • Noon Lecture – Tuesdays Noon - 1 p.m.
  • Journal Club – 1st Wednesday every month Noon - 1 p.m.
  • Board Review – 3rd Wednesday every month Noon - 1 p.m.
