2016 Childbirth and Prenatal Classes

MOMM's Place/Perinatal Education Class Schedule

All classes are held at MOMM'S Place in the Medical Office Building, Suite 3F – MOMM's Place, 250 Second Street East, Suite 3F (next to the hospital). Registration is required. Class sizes are limited. Class dates and prices are listed below and are subject to change.

Prepared Childbirth — Cost $70

Giving birth can be a physical, emotional and life-changing event. You'll learn how to deal with the discomforts of pregnancy, as well as how best to prepare for the physical and emotional challenges of childbirth during this four-week class for mothers and their partners. We'll also discuss current infant care practices, and give a tour of the Family BirthPlace at Manatee Memorial Hospital.

Time: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Dates: Four classes, Mondays or Wednesdays.

Your Amazing Newborn — Cost $15

You'll learn about characteristics of newborn babies and recommended care for your infant. We'll also explore emotional changes and challenges that face new parents.

Time: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Dates: One Tuesday class

Introduction to Breastfeeding — Cost $15

We'll discuss benefits and preparation for breastfeeding your newborn. New moms are encouraged to invite their partners to this class.

Keeping Baby Safe — Cost $15

This class is an introduction to infant CPR, car seat safety and what to do in common emergencies.

Manatee Memorial Hospital and the Mark Wandall Foundation sponsor free monthly car seat checkups. Your child's car seat will be inspected by a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. Call MOMM's Place at (941) 745-6925 for dates and to schedule an appointment.

Lowdown on Labor — Cost $50

A brief overview of the labor process is provided, including the mechanics of labor and pain management. We'll also discuss when to come to the hospital and what to expect when you arrive. Birth certificates, visitation hours and discharge teaching will be addressed.

Want to meet other new mothers? Need a shoulder to cry on? Interested in activities that involve you and your children? Then this group is for you. Most of our mothers join us weekly to share lunch, stories, and life's little experiences. It's a great time to get out of the house with the little ones. "Infant and Mom Group" meets on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at MOMM's Place, Medical Office Building, Suite 3F – MOMM's Place,, 250 Second Street East, Suite 3F (next door to the hospital). Bring a bag lunch. Call (941) 745-6925 for information.
