GME Internal Medicine

Manatee Memorial Hospital has a strong commitment to training primary care physicians in Internal Medicine. Residents accepted into the three-year Internal Medicine Residency will follow the Internal Medicine specialty track.

The curriculum will include participation in rotations including: Internal Medicine, Critical Care (ICU), Surgery and Emergency Medicine, among others. Manatee Memorial adheres to the program requirements of the AOA. First-year residents will satisfy the continuity of care experience by providing comprehensive general internal medicine patient care during assigned weekly clinics at the Residency Clinic at One Stop.

OGME–1 – 1 half-day per week
OGME–2 2 half-days per week
OGME–3 2 full-days per week

  • Internal Medicine – 8 weeks
  • House Officer Internal Medicine – 8 weeks
  • Critical Care (ICU) – 8 weeks
  • Cardiology – 4 weeks
  • Surgery – 4 weeks
  • Ambulatory Primary Care (FP Female reproductive medicine) – 4 weeks
  • Nephrology – 4 weeks
  • Neurology – 4 weeks
  • Emergency Medicine – 4 weeks
  • Pulmonary Medicine – 4 weeks
  • Clinic – one-half day per week

OGME–2

  • Internal Medicine – 16 weeks
  • Hematology/Oncology – 4 weeks
  • Gastroenterology – 4 weeks
  • Pulmonary Medicine – 4 weeks
  • Critical Care (ICU) – 4 weeks
  • Infectious Disease – 4 weeks
  • Rheumatology – 4 weeks
  • Electives – 12 weeks
  • Clinic – one half day per week

OGME–3

  • Internal Medicine – 16 weeks
  • Nephrology – 4 weeks
  • Neurology – 4 weeks
  • Outpatient Internal Medicine Clinic – 4 weeks
  • Critical Care (ICU) – 8 weeks
  • Electives – 12 weeks
  • Endocrinology – 4 weeks
  • Clinic – one half day per week

The clinical experience will be supplemented by a structured didactic program comprised of:

  • Morning report
  • Noon lectures
  • Grand rounds
  • Tumor board
  • Mortality & Morbidity
  • Journal Club
  • Medicine Board Review
  • OMM lectures & workshops
  • Harrison's Club
  • EKG workshop
  • Critical Care series
  • Basic Sciences series
