The mission of Manatee Memorial Hospital Foundation is to offer support to individuals directly or indirectly that have health-related situations, support other not for profit agencies in reaching their fullest potential, and assist individuals to obtain their educational training.
The Manatee Memorial Hospital Foundation recognizes the need to establish and maintain a steady flow of skilled medical personnel in Manatee County. Several partnerships have been forged with that in mind.
State College of Florida
Over a decade ago, an endowment was established in conjunction with the Manatee Community College Foundation to provide scholarships for nursing students and technicians. This endowment, together with matching state funds, continues today.
State College of Florida (East Campus)
The Manatee Memorial Hospital Foundation has funded the Manatee Technology and Simulation Center currently under construction at the east campus in Lakewood Ranch. With an intensive care unit, a birthing room and science labs among others, the center offers classes for nursing students in a hospital-like setting and uses advanced technology to simulate medical scenarios. Each room is equipped with a high-tech mannequin that can physically simulate the human body.
University of South Florida Sarasota Manatee
In 2005, the Manatee Memorial Hospital Foundation partnered with USF Sarasota-Manatee to establish the Manatee Memorial Hospital Foundation College of Nursing Center. The foundation's gift provided advanced equipment upgrades at the Crosley campus location.
The foundation also provides funding to USF Sarasota-Manatee for the recruitment of nurses to further their education through the baccalaureate and master's degree programs in nursing at the regional campus. This partnership supports the growing demand for more nurses to serve our community.
Traditional Student Scholarships
The Manatee Memorial Hospital Foundation provides scholarship opportunities available for traditional students pursuing a medical career (i.e. nursing, radiologic technologists).
Grants
The Manatee Memorial Hospital Foundation offers grant funding to community organizations for health-related programs within Manatee county. In 2009, in addition to $30,000 for medical scholarships given to students attending local universities, local community organizations were recipients of monetary awards from the Manatee Memorial Hospital Foundation/Auxiliary totaling $340,000.
